Our debut project under this banner? Contributing idle server power to real-world scientific breakthroughs through Folding@Home.
What is Folding@Home?
Folding@Home (FAH) is one of the world’s largest crowd-sourced supercomputers. It works by breaking down complex protein simulations into tiny pieces and distributing them to volunteers' computers all over the world. Those simulations are then used by researchers to study how diseases form — and how to fight them. FAH has played a critical role in real scientific breakthroughs.
How We're Helping
Folding@Home now runs on our dedicated servers that are not currently assigned to customers.
Instead of letting these servers sit idle, we've built automation into our platform that launches Folding@Home as soon as a dedicated server is available. These servers then donate their processing power to medical research, helping simulate critical protein structures that advance scientific understanding of major diseases.
When a customer rents the server, Folding@Home automatically stops and the server gets wiped – ensuring zero impact on performance or reliability for our users.
This approach allows us to:
- Put unused compute power to work for global good
- Support real-time research without compromising service
- Make meaningful contributions to science through infrastructure

What's next for The Genius Impact?
The Genius Impact is our long-term commitment to using RackGenius infrastructure, expertise, and reach to support meaningful causes and global progress. As we grow, we’ll continue to explore new ways to leverage our platform for good — whether through technical partnerships, community-focused efforts, or other innovative initiatives that align with our values.
As part of The Genius Impact, we're proud to offer an annual scholarship to students who are passionate about technology and driven to build a future in IT. Each year, we select a few recipients — some from our hometown and others from across the U.S. — who show potential, curiosity, and the desire to push beyond what's expected.
We're looking for:
- Passion for technology, computing, or self-driven learning
- Evidence of personal projects or hands-on experimentation
- Motivation to grow and contribute to the tech ecosystem
This initiative was created by Evan and Ethan — founders of RackGenius and Whitehall High School alumni — to empower students who remind them of their own journey in tech. It’s designed for curious minds who are constantly building, learning, and reshaping their future.
